The Type XI Scimitar rifle is the longer serving ground troop rifle of Starfleet troops and Marine units in it's current iteration it has a number of sub variants exist, the main type XI is a high powered pulse phaser rifle where as type A, B1, B2 and C will have a secondary weapon mounted under the main phaser rifle. The Scimitar is typically in use with dedicated ground units where they need a a higher rate of fire and a longer reach on the battle field or when contending with Borg or similar enemies.
They Type C version has been used exclusively by Joint Task Force special forces units where they tend to operate behind enemy lines for extended periods, and can make use of the mounted shotgun to use specialized rounds typically reserved for use in the SSP-370SP shotgun.
Both type B variations are common too marine units not assigned too starships in place of Type 3 phaser rifles or Compression rifle are not practical.
